MEGAN FITZGERALD

THE MOUNTAINS OF TUSCANNY (BA-6981)

‘The Mountains of Tuscany’ is a painting based off of photographs I took while living in Florence. Long train rides through rolling hills, hiking the countryside and plein-air painting atop mountains all left me with an overwhelming gratitude for the power of landscape. This painting is equally about the feeling of a landscape as well as the joy of paint. Here, I worked with an intuitive approach: translucent washes drip and soak into the panel, each shape determining the next brushstroke. Thick application of paint, gestural movement and radical colours brings me as close as possible to the memory of this landscape. When looking at “The Mountains of Tuscany’, I hope that viewers may find the same joy, stillness and excitement in paint and in nature as I do.
