The Institute of Figurative Arts (IAF) is a group of professional visual artists in Quebec whose mission is to recognize, unite, and promote excellence in the field of figurative art.

The IAF was founded in June 1986 by the renowned multidisciplinary artist Paul Tex Lecor. The idea stemmed from a desire to bring together professional painters and sculptors to exchange ideas about their passion, share their experiences, and champion the place of figurative art within Quebec’s cultural landscape.

The Institute distinguishes itself through its rigorous standards for its members. The IAF designation, which accompanies an artist’s signature, is a mark of recognition that testifies to the high quality of their technique, their professional career, and the rigor of their artistic approach.

Since its founding, the organization has organized group exhibitions throughout Quebec, thus actively contributing to the dissemination of figurative art. Its members are also very active in the art world as lecturers, workshop leaders, and jury members at symposiums and cultural events.

While focused on figurative art, the IAF brings together artists using a wide variety of media, ranging from oil painting, acrylics, watercolors, and pastels to sculpture, drawing, and mixed media.

After nearly 40 years, the Institute continues to evolve by incorporating contemporary issues in the art world:

The integration of social media, modern dissemination tools, and even artificial intelligence are now among the new challenges facing its members.

The organization remains a non-profit organization (NPO), whose reputation rests on the prestige of its members and their ability to maintain a level of excellence recognized by the art community and the public.

In short, the IAF has succeeded, over the decades, in establishing itself as a pillar for artists who favour the representation of reality, offering a solid platform for the sustainability and enhancement of technical know-how in Quebec art.
