Le Balcon d’art is proud to introduce a new artist, Marlène Nadeau

Biography & Artistic Journey

Marlène Nadeau, originally from Sherbrooke, has been cultivating her creative spirit since she began painting in October 2016, entirely as a personal exploration. What started as a private endeavor quickly blossomed when others began recognizing and appreciating her talent, prompting her to continue developing her unique voice in art.

Now residing in the breathtaking region of Gaspésie on Quebec’s south shore, Nadeau brings a fresh and heartfelt perspective to the maritime landscapes she depicts. As someone who wasn’t raised amidst these oceanic vistas, she regards them with heightened wonder and curiosity—she sees them through an “outsider’s” lens, one that deepens her appreciation and inspires her work.

Artistic Style & Themes

Nadeau’s whimsical acrylic paintings immerse the viewer in a marine world full of life and emotion. Ever-present in her compositions are whales and ships, symbols of freedom, exploration, and her personal connection to the sea. recurring motifs like the octopus—evoking themes of protection of the ocean floor—and the cetacean, representing support, peace, and wisdom, imbue her pieces with thoughtful meaning.

Her artwork titles—such as Mer Nature, À la douce mémoire, and Gaspésie, je t’aime—convey stories of place, emotion, and belonging, reinforcing her deep bond with the maritime environment.

Dual Identity: Artist & Project Manager

By profession, Nadeau is a project manager at Raymond Chabot, grounded in a world of structure, rationality, and precision. She describes herself as “very Cartesian,” a quality shaped by her analytical profession. In contrast, painting offers her a creative outlet—an emotional and expressive counterpart to her organized daily life.

Growing Recognition

2025 marks a significant year for Nadeau. This year has seen her work featured in notable symposiums, including the 6th edition of Sympos’Arts held at Manoir Globensky in Saint-Eustache—her first major exhibition outside of Gaspésie. These opportunities signal rising recognition beyond her local community, serving as milestones in her artistic ascent.
