Biography

rivierel

Born in France, Léa Rivière came to Canada in 1990. She started to paint at a young age with her uncle who taught her the basis of her trade. Her training at l’École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva gave her a deep understanding of abstraction and technique. Léa’s painting focuses on the female form and the horse; an inspiration dating back to her youth, when she worked in an equestrian centre. While not a rider herself, she is fascinated by the intimate relationship between the rider and the horse. Years of teaching and long hours of observation and practice over the years gave her a vast knowledge of anatomy and movement clearly discernable in her precise style of drawing.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries in North America, Europe and North Africa. For numerous years, her work could be seen in the d’Avignon gallery and St-Dizier gallery. The Art historian and Pascin specialist Rosemarie Napolitano, is her agent in France. Her work can currently be found at her studio, at the Thompson-Landry Gallery in Toronto, the Richelieu Art Gallery in Montréal and under Cavalia’s big top, which allows her paintings to travel the world.
