Renee De Gagne is a Montreal-born artist. She became a full-time professional artist in 2006, after leaving behind a successful career as a management consultant.
She works in mixed media which enables her to innovate and integrate several materials: acrylic paints and mediums, ink, charcoal, Japanese papers, etc. Through her warm color palette, she captures the energy of a city by maintaining a balance between figuration and abstraction.
She has won several awards in Canada and in the United States. Her artwork is present in many private and corporate collections across Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia.
« My paintings reflect my love of architecture, be it breathtaking towers or ancient constructions. Buildings are an important testimonial of our presence on earth, and my artwork is about this « presence ». I see them as a collective heritage that warrants being valorized.
I find inspiration in architectural details, textures, reflections, contrasts formed by complexity and simplicity. By focusing on the buildings, I hope to bring the spectator to see the city differently and to recognize the important role of architecture in our lives. My endeavour is not to reproduce reality and authenticity but rather to record my emotional impressions and to let place to your own interpretation. »
For Renée De Gagné it is a must to have visited and researched the architectural history of a city. Her works currently depict places such as Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Paris, and London. Coming soon…Rome and parts of Italy.
