About the artist

Marie-Claude Courteau is a Canadian painter, born in Beauharnois in 1953. Her artistic journey is interesting because she initially pursued scientific studies and a career as a chemical technician, which did not prevent her from cultivating her passions for painting, photography, horticulture, and nature hiking.

Artistic Journey:

Marie-Claude Courteau began painting seriously around 1978.
She has dedicated herself entirely to painting since 2006, after having balanced a career as a manager and a painter for several years.
She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in her region and beyond.
Her recognition grew with several distinctions, notably in 2000, when she won an award in the “Representative Realism” category at the Quebec Association of Painters and Sculptors Artists’ Competition. She also won first and second prizes in art competitions in Mascouche, Valleyfield, and La Prairie in 2006 and 2007, and the 1st Valédar prize for professional artists in 2017.
Style and Themes:

Marie-Claude Courteau’s childhood, spent near a lake, awakened in her a profound fascination and love for nature, which are strongly reflected in her work.
She is primarily recognized for her landscapes, addressing various subjects such as mountains, forests, lakes, and rivers, as well as the gentleness of fields at dawn or the intensity of sunsets. Light is a central and recurring element in her works; she considers it to be what constantly renews nature.
Although she is often associated with representative realism, she uses mixed media, combining various techniques such as acrylic paint, ink, photomontage, and handmade paper. She seeks to maintain a balance between figuration and abstraction.
Her color palette is often warm, and she strives to convey the energy and beauty of nature. She also paints animals and portraits.
Marie-Claude Courteau is an artist whose sensitivity to nature and technical mastery allow her to create works that captivate with their energy and light. Her paintings are featured in art galleries, notably Le Balcon d’Art in Saint-Lambert and the Chase Art Gallery in Beaconsfield.
