Biography

deslandes

A visual artist for more than twenty years, Pierre grew up near the banks of the Yamaska River in Brome-Missisquoi County. Son of a weaver, who was himself in love with painting and music, he has wonderful memories of his childhood. “We were not a rich family, but we were united in happiness.»

He was introduced to the beauty of nature at a young age by observing the flowers his father grew. If painting is not, at that moment, a medium that he practices, it permeates him whenever possible. “I could not have said at that time that it would be my vocation, but I knew that painting would always occupy an important place in my life.»

It was much later, during his many travels in Europe, that he discovered the masterpieces of the great masters in the most prestigious museums and galleries. This immersion will be decisive. “I think that observation is an important quality in an artist. I have made it one of my principal qualities. I can still today stay an hour before a canvas, literally in contemplation. ”

The paintings he presents today for the exhibition are indeed the culmination of many years of research and analysis, but above all work on matter and form. If he has created much, he has also thrown a lot. “I do not have the ambition to compare myself to the great masters, but I want to be proud of my works.”
